Cross Tattoo Designs and Religion

When someone chooses a cross tattoo there is usually some significance associated with the decision. For many, Cross Tattoo Designs may be a sign of their religion. Some religions use a cross as the symbol or icon which represents their religion or faith. The Catholic religion as well as the Protestant faith has extensive use of the cross. If someone has a cross for their tattoo, it does not immediately signify just one religion because there are so many that have integrated this icon into their faith. Some people integrate other symbols of items with their cross tattoo such as a crown of thorns, a halo, Easter lilies, roses, wings and other symbols which are commonly associated with religion.

Some have animals included with their cross tattoo such as lambs, doves and snakes. Animals may not be commonly integrated in these kinds of tattoos but these are also not rare occurrences. The three animals are often associated with religion as well but the snake may have negative connotations especially with the Roman Catholic religion.

Cross Tattoo Designs and the Association with Death

The cross tattoo may also signify the death of a loved one as symbolized by a tomb or the RIP sign. There are many who have survived a loved one that choose to remember their loved one with a cross tattoo. Some will include the date of the persons passing with the tattoo of the cross. Though some view the cross as a symbol of religion or death, others associate it with ceremonial representation with occasions like weddings and baptisms. The significance of the cross tattoo may not be fully appreciated for weddings or a baptism but some people do use it for these occasions, although it is not as common as the significance for death.

The importance of the cross tattoo will be different depending on the person that is getting the tattoo. There are thousands of tattoo designs of crosses and it would be hard to find two designs that are exactly the same. There may be some similarities but one can actually have a specific tattoo design altered to suit one’s preferences.
